Vincent Kompany is safe and well after a private plane carrying the Manchester City captain and his staff veered off the runway at Norwich International Airport on Saturday evening.

Kompany, on the sidelines with a calf injury, had been watching City's FA Cup third round victory against Norwich City form the Carrow Road stands and was due to fly back to Manchester separately to the rest of the squad.

But his plane skidded off the runway as it attempted to take off at 18:07 GMT, and safely came to a halt on grass next to the tarmac.

"It was at a fairly low speed of its departure, at which point it veered off the runway, for reasons for which we have some guesses," Phil Brockwell of Centreline Air told the Eastern Daily Press.

Nobody on board, including Kompany, his staff and the plan's crew, was injured in the incident.
